Catching the exquisite sidelighting on the roots of this lodgepole pine was a simple matter of synchronizing a certain lengthy summer evening and a sub–optimal winter snowpack responsible for dropping Tenaya Lake's level low enough to expose the sandy beach underneath. So simple in fact, that after capturing it once on 35 millimeter film, I have not been able to repeat it with other formats.
