I spied this sinuous branch of Dogwood blossoms overhanging the Merced River just as the first rays of the sun touched its waxy white sepals. The photographic challenge became selecting a fast enough shutter speed with the greatest depth of field in order to stop the beginning of incipient motion caused by micro–convection as the morning sun warmed the strata of air overlying the cold river. Perhaps uncharacteristic of much of my work, a simple subtlety and fluidity is created by the shallowed focus and few compositional elements.
